What Contractor does

Five things, from your first enquiry to your next contract.

Find professional contracts

Current and future opportunities from companies and professional recruitment partners.

Build a trusted identity

Create your profile and complete the verification that applies to your work.

Plan beyond this project

Publish future availability and start preparing before today's contract finishes.

Keep developing

Certifications, refresher learning, events and practical contractor guidance.

Manage the work after you get it

Contracts, timesheets, approvals, invoicing and extensions stay connected.

Do not just find contracts. Build a contractor career.

Four participants, one record

Everyone in an engagement needs a different view of it.

01

For independent professionals

Manage your professional identity, verification, availability and every engagement from one place. The record is yours, and it survives the end of any single contract.

Verified profileAvailability timelineTimesheetsCareer planning

Verified, not just claimed

A profile gets stronger with every check that clears.

Anyone can type a job title into a form. Contractor separates what you have stated from what has actually been confirmed, so companies know which is which before a conversation starts.

100%Profile strength
  • Profile created

Your experience, skills and project history, stated by you.

  • Identity verified

Government ID and, where required, a face check.

  • References confirmed

Contacted directly. Referee details are not published on your profile.

  • Work eligibility checked

Right to work confirmed, with status and validity shared, not the documents.

  • Certification added

Completed and verified with the awarding provider.

Verification confirms the specific item checked. It is not a guarantee of performance, and the profile says so plainly rather than implying everything was confirmed.

Moving into contracting

Contracting gives you independence. It also gives you responsibility.

In permanent employment your organisation provides the structure. As a contractor, much more becomes yours to manage: where the next opportunity comes from, which recruiters to trust, when to start looking, how time and invoicing work, and how to stay relevant between engagements.

Two different professional lives

The work may look similar from the outside. The structure around it does not. Contractor exists to carry the parts of the second column that can be systematised, so the parts that cannot be are where your attention goes.

Find contracts

The most relevant contract may not be the one starting tomorrow.

Opportunities reach Contractor through companies using MyResource and agencies operating through Recruiter. Instead of waiting for a call when a project turns urgent, you publish when you come free, and projects starting in four or six months become visible to you.

  1. 01

Say when you come free, not just whether you are free

A traditional job platform knows 'available' or 'not available'. A contractor timeline knows the date.

  2. 02

Companies can plan a January project in September

A company planning for January can identify you before your December engagement finishes.

  3. 03

The timeline continues as your career does

Current contract → next contract → future availability. It does not reset when a project ends.

Trust

Professional opportunities. Verified identities. Clear relationships.

Contractor profiles undergo relevant verification. Recruitment companies joining the ecosystem are identifiable and reviewed. Opportunities arrive through the controlled MyResource ecosystem. And you can see who is representing you.

  1. 01

    Verified profiles

Identity, face verification, professional history, references, qualifications, certifications and work eligibility where it applies.

  2. 02

    Identifiable agencies

Recruitment companies joining the ecosystem are reviewed and identifiable, not anonymous inboxes.

  3. 03

    Controlled opportunities

Companies and roles arrive through the MyResource ecosystem rather than being forwarded around the market.

  4. 04

    Visible representation

You can see which agency is representing you, for which opportunity, at which company.

  5. 05

    Clear verification claims

The profile shows what was actually checked, not a badge implying everything was confirmed.

  6. 06

    A standard, not a scare

This is a positive professional standard, not a warning that the market is full of fraud.

Know who you are dealing with before you build a professional relationship.

The same engagement, three different views

Right user, right role, right information, right purpose. Pick a role and see the record the way that person sees it.

Recruiter relationships

Work with recruiters without losing control of your career.

Contractor does not try to remove agencies from the market. Good recruiters hold real client relationships and specialist networks. It makes the representation visible: which agency, which opportunity, which company, and whether you authorised it.

Direct engagement

MyResource companyContractor

Some companies engage independent professionals directly.

Recruiter-supported engagement

MyResource companyRecruiterContractor

Others work through approved partners for procurement or consolidated billing. Both routes are supported.

Companies do not all hire contractors the same way

Some are comfortable engaging independent professionals directly. Others require staffing partners because of procurement rules, commercial administration or consolidated billing. Supporting only one of those models would quietly cut you off from half the market.

After you are selected

Getting the contract is only the beginning.

Most recruitment platforms stop being useful the moment you are placed. Your engagement stays connected here: dates, timesheets, approvals, invoicing, extensions and the availability that follows.

  1. Opportunity
  2. Interview
  3. Contract
  4. Project begins
  5. Timesheet
  6. Manager approval
  7. Invoice
  8. Extension or next contract

Manage your time without the email chase

You record and submit time. The manager reviews it in MyResource and either approves it or returns it for correction. You can see the status without asking whether anyone received the document.

  5. 05

    Final approval

Submit and track time from the mobile app

Let approved work move into invoicing

Because the engagement, commercial terms and approved time are already connected, you are not rebuilding the same administrative information every billing period. Agency route or direct route, as applicable.

Your contract may be extended. Your timeline should update with it.

Projects rarely end exactly when planned. When an extension is agreed, your availability moves with it, instead of you separately re-explaining the situation to several recruiters.

Contractor Success

We do not only want you to get a contract. We want you to get better at contracting.

Technical skill alone does not make a successful contractor. Independent professionals have to manage themselves, communicate with clients, handle recruiters, plan between projects and protect a reputation. That is learnable, and it is what this part of the platform teaches.

Moving from employment

What actually changes when you leave permanent employment: income rhythm, structure, responsibility.

Getting the first contract

How to be credible on a first engagement without overstating what you have done.

Managing recruiters

How agencies work, what representation means, and what to check before your CV is submitted.

Client interviews

What contract interviews test that permanent interviews do not.

Between contracts

Planning, income management and staying visible during the gap.

Professional reputation

How repeat work actually gets created, and what quietly destroys it.

Certifications

Certification tied to career direction, not a catalogue of 500 courses.

Choose your professional area and Contractor recommends certifications and refresher programmes relevant to that direction. Because MyResource sees what companies are actually asking for, those recommendations can increasingly follow real market demand.

  1. Company demand
  2. Relevant skills
  3. Recommended learning
  4. Certification
  5. Stronger profile
  6. Discovered by companies

Events & guidance

Practical sessions, run often, on the things contracting actually demands.

Not every session has to be large. Regular online guidance, run by our team, experienced contractors, recruiters, companies and certification partners, is what gives professionals a reason to keep checking back.

  • Guidance session

For professionals still weighing the move out of permanent employment.

  • Guidance session

Junior contractors

Companies want experienced contractors. Nobody becomes one without a first contract.

That circle is the market's most obvious failure, and it is worth deliberately breaking. We do not encourage young professionals to exaggerate experience. We help them build genuine readiness and be assessed against the real requirements of the role.

  2. Verification
  3. Contractor readiness
  4. Refresher learning
  5. Certification

Career Hub

The questions Kenyan professionals are actually asking.

Career Hub exists to answer these properly, and to be findable without an account, because someone searching for how to move into consulting should be able to reach a useful page before they ever register.

Start before you resign. Build the profile, complete verification and publish an availability date while you still have salaried income. The market takes you more seriously when you are choosing to move rather than needing to. Expect the first engagement to test your commercial judgement more than your technical skill.

Look for three things: a company you can identify and locate, a named consultant who tells you which client and which role before asking for your CV, and a willingness to confirm representation in writing. Agencies admitted to Recruiter are reviewed and identifiable, which is the point of admitting them at all.

Three months is late but recoverable; six is comfortable. Publish your availability date as soon as the end date is known, because a company planning a January start is looking in September. The professionals who never have a gap are almost always the ones who started early, not the ones who searched hardest.

Work from a day rate, not a monthly salary equivalent, and price the gaps in: unpaid weeks between engagements, your own tools, your own training, no paid leave. Compare against the senior ranges published in Market & Skills Insight rather than against what you earned as an employee.

Ask which client, which role, which duration, and whether they already hold the mandate. Confirm you are authorising this one submission to this one company. Duplicate submissions to the same client by two agencies damage your candidacy more than they help it, and you are usually the last to find out.

Be precise instead of broad. A junior profile that says exactly what you have done, verified, beats a senior-sounding one that cannot survive a technical conversation. Use readiness guidance and certification to close the specific gap the role names, and apply for roles scoped to your actual level.

SAP contracting rewards depth in a module and evidence you have survived a real implementation. Get onto a programme in any capacity, learn the delivery rhythm, then specialise. Functional and technical leads in this space sit at the top of the Kenyan rate ranges for a reason.

Yes, and it is one of the faster-growing routes for Kenyan professionals. What international clients need is confidence in identity, references and eligibility, which is exactly what verification is for, plus evidence you can operate across time zones and invoice cleanly.

It depends on the direction you have chosen, which is why Contractor ties certification to a professional area rather than listing everything. As the ecosystem grows and MyResource sees what companies are asking for, those recommendations can follow real demand instead of guesswork.

Prepare for a commercial conversation as much as a technical one: scope, availability, rate, notice and how you handle handover. International panels also probe communication and autonomy hard, because nobody is going to supervise you daily. Guidance sessions cover this specifically.

Price yourself properly

A day rate is not a salary divided by 260.

The gap between engagements, your own tools, your own training and the leave nobody pays for all come out of the same number. Move the sliders to see what a rate actually has to carry.

Set this to the rate you are considering.
